<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for holding a workpiece to be ground, which can suppress the occurrence of scratches on a surface to be ground and peripheral end surfaces in grinding the workpiece to be ground. <P>SOLUTION: The material for holding the workpiece to be ground has a through hole arranged so as to hold the workpiece by inserting the workpiece into the through hole. The material is substantially composed of fiber integrated materials which contain meta-linked aramid fibers as a main composition, and is a flat material compressed in a heated state. The fibers are fixed with each other by thermal fusion. The material contains the meta-linked aramid fibers as the main composition, and may contain the para-linked aramid fibers. The fibers substantially containing the meta-linked aramid fibers as the main composition are exposed outside the wall surface of the through hole.
