<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which stably switches imaging modes without being affected by an imaging environment. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus can select a day mode wherein an object is imaged through an infrared ray cut filter removable from an imaging element and a night mode wherein the object is imaged without the infrared ray cut filter depending on an incident luminous quantity from the object to the imaging element. The imaging apparatus sets a reference incident luminous quantity (level 4) being a reference of switching from the night mode into the day mode on the basis of an incident luminous quantity (level 3) when the day mode is switched into the night mode. Through the configuration above, the reference incident luminous quantity to switch the night mode to the day mode depending on the incident luminous quantity when the day mode is switched into the night mode can dynamically be changed depending on an imaging environment.
