PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time for forming a gas hydrate and, simultaneously, prevent the water for the production of the gas hydrate from rotting. SOLUTION: The additive for accelerating the formation rate of the gas hydrate and, simultaneously, preventing the water from rotting is composed of salicylic acid or its salt. A method for producing the gas hydrate by bringing a gas into contact with water to form the gas hydrate uses an aqueous solution to which salicylic acid or its salt is added to the water to accelerate the formation of the gas hydrate. A method of transporting a natural gas utilizes this aqueous solution. A method of storing a gas as a gas hydrate utilizes the aqueous solution. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
