<p>The invention provides a system that has an input for receiving an input signal containing document print information. The document print information is of the type that, when supplied to a printer device, will cause the printer device to print multiple specimens of a document that can be a single page or several pages. The system includes a processing unit that processes the input signal to derive from the print information the number of document specimens that will be generated by the printer device. On the basis of the value X-Y, the processing unit generates usage data, which provides information on the usage of the printer device. Such usage data can be employed for different purposes, examples of which include billing and also printer device usage analysis.
