Extended symmetrical multiprocessor architecture

A local address space transaction is attempted in a repeater node (30A,30B) to which a corresponding region is assigned, without broadcasting the transaction to other repeater nodes in a multiprocessor computer system (20). The memory access rights for the transaction are checked. The transaction is reissued to all of nodes in the system when the improper access rights are determined. The method involves dividing the system memory address space of the multiprocessor computer system into multiple regions wherein number of regions is equal to the number of the repeater nodes in the system, and the amount of the system memory address space in each region is inversely proportional to the number of the repeater nodes. The regions are individually assigned to the respective repeater nodes each having a local address space corresponding to the assigned region. An independent claim is also included for a multiprocessor computer system.
