PURPOSE: An offset compensation method within an asymmetrical reproduction signal is provided to compensate for an offset even though the amplitude of the shortest run-length component is smaller than the asymmetry of a reproduction signal. CONSTITUTION: An analog reproduction signal(ARS) is converted into a digital area through an A/D converter(4). The converted reproduction signal selectively passes through a digital pre-equalizer(5). A digital reproduction signal(DRS) passes through a slider(6), and is centered at a digital zero level. The centered digital reproduction signal(DRSO) is equalized to a partial response target by a partial response equalizer(8), and is processed by a Viterbi detector(9). The Viterbi detector(9) transmits an NRZ(Non-Return to Zero) data stream.
