1276857 Metal oxide coatings TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 13 June 1969 [11 July 1968] 30175/69 Headings C1A and C1N [Also in Division F4] A surface is coated with a metal oxide by impinging thereon a mixture of a volatile metal chloride and an ignited combustible gas, by using a torch having a central chamber 12 ending in a nozzle 74 supplying a jet stream of the chloride, an intermediate chamber 22 supplying an inert sheath gas via opening 76 and an outer chamber 26 supplying a combustible gas mixture via slanted openings 78. The chlorides specified are SiCl 4 , TiCl 4 , AlCl 3 , SnCl 4 , ZrCl 4 . The inert gas may be oxygen and the combustible gas an oxygen/hydrogen mixture. The metal chloride vapour may be produced by bubbling the inert gas through the liquid chloride (see 58). |
