Filter-mass comprising randomly intermingled metal fibre elements bonded together by sintering in known manner, in which the novel feature is the decrease in permeability of the filter medium in the direction of flow of the liquids or gases to be filtered, which may be achieved by the use of a series of layers of such material of different porosity, secured by the use of fibres of different thickness of layers of different fibre density. Alternatively the filter body may be formed by sintering together a metal fibre part as described with a metal wire mesh fabric acting as filter element and preferably arranged on the outlet face of the filter body. |
