Horizontal form fill and seal machine

A horizontal form, fill and seal machine (10) has a hollow forming box (26) around which a continuous film (34) is longitudinally fed from a packaging film supply (12). The forming box (26) has a top (28), sides (30) and open inlet (36) and outlet (38) ends. A pair of guide bars (40) extend from the outlet end (38) of the forming box (26) adjacent the forming box sides (30) and extend away from the inlet end (36). The forming box (26) transforms the flat packaging film (34) into a film envelope that extends about the guide bars (40) and has a product-receiving surface that rests on a conveyor (42) between the guide bars. Sealing bars (52,56) are provided to join the longitudinal edges (50) of the packaging film (34) together and to form seals across the envelope at package length intervals after each deposit of product onto the product-receiving surface. A zipper attaching mechanism (18) applies zipper (14) to the film (34) upstream of the forming box (26).
