<p>An additive for stabilizing jet fuels at high temperatures comprises 1 to 10% by weight, of a deactivator having the formula HO-A-CH=N-R-N=CH-A-OH wherein A represents a benzene ring, the OH groups being in the ortho position, and R represents an aliphatic radical having the two N-atoms attached to different carbon atoms, e.g. N,N1,-disalicylaldimine of propylene diamine, or of ethylene diamine, and between 99 and 90% by weight, of one or more full neutral aliphatic esters of citric acid, phthalic acid, oxalic acid or azelaic acid wherein the esterifying alcohol contains between 4 and 20 carbon atoms, e.g. tri-(isodecyl)citrate, tri-(tridecyl)-citrate, tri-(2-ethylhexyl)citrate, tri-octadecenyl citrate, di(isotridecyl)phthalate, di(isodecyl)phthalate, di-decyl phthalate, di(isotridecyl)azelate, tri-n-butyl citrate, di-amyl phthalate, di-hexyl oxalate, di-2-ethylhexyl azelate, tri-n-decyl citrate, tri-(iso-tridecyl)citrate, di-(tridecyl)phthalate, di-(iso-decyl)oxalate, di-hexyldecenyl phthalate, or di-octadecenyl azelate. The jet fuels are hydrocarbon fractions having an initial boiling point of 100 DEG F. and an end boiling point of 750 DEG F. These fuels can be made up of catalytically or thermally cracked (including hydrocracked) distillate fractions, or mixtures of straight run fuel oil, or naphtha, with cracked distillate stocks, or alkylate. The amount of additive composition will vary between 0,001 and 1% by weight.</p> |
