[Also in Divisions C2, C3 and C4] An aerosol composition for use as a hair spray lacquer comprises an organic solvent solution of an ultra-violet absorbing film-forming copolymer in admixture with a propellant therefor. The copolymer may be a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated derivative of phenyl salicylate, benzophenone, benzotriazole or a phenol (wherein the ethylenic unsaturation is ortho to the hydroxyl) with a vinyl ester; alkyl or hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate; acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic or crotonic acid; or an alkyl half-ester of maleic or fumaric acid. Co-polymers with vinyl esters may be partially hydrolysed. The preparation of many such copolymers having up to 5 monomers is described. The propellant may be trichlorofluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane, isobutane or propane or mixtures thereof. Optional ingredients include glycols, phthalate esters and glycerine plasticisers; silicones, lanolin, protein hydrolysates, ethylene oxide adducts and polyoxyethylene cholesterol.
