A method of forming a stator for a brushless motor comprising providing a laminated stator core comprising a generally rectangular body having a plurality of teeth extending generally perpendicularly from the body, the stator core being formed into a generally circular shape. Stator coils 26 may be wound around, or preformed and inserted over, each of the teeth 24. The core may be formed so that teeth 24 project outwardly or inwardly. In the latter case, the teeth may have end flanges 30 which meet to close the inter tooth space, notches 42,32 allowing the structure to bend. In the former, a outing ring 44 may be fitted about core, slots therein receiving the shaped ends of the teeth 40, the ring being press fitted, heat shrunk or crimped (crimping zones 70 Fig 12a deforming appropriately) about the core. Alternatively it may comprises arcuate sections 58 which are pressed onto the teeth and welded together in situ. |
