PURPOSE: An engine system having two engines is provided to reduce the need for using rotational balancing load driven by chain drive or toothed wheel drive. CONSTITUTION: An engine system has two engines(3) for operation of propellers(5) and a control unit(7). The control unit transmits a control signal to synchronize the operation of two internal combustion engines with respect to the setting of speed and a mutual phase angle, in a first operation mode, and the external moment from one engine reacts on the external moment from the other engine. Each engine has four to seven cylinders(18) and the engine is a two-stroke cross head engine of a ship. The secondary external moment from each engine is transmitted without compensation from the engine to the body(1) of the ship. The control unit has a second operation mode where just one engine operates. The second operation mode receives the control signal independently of the other engine.
