PURPOSE: A universal motor is provided to achieve improved efficiency and lengthen the useful life of the motor by preventing the rotor from being over-heated. CONSTITUTION: A universal motor comprises a motor housing; a stator(52) having an inner wall where a plurality of protrusions wounded with field coils are formed; a rotor disposed in the stator in such a manner that the rotor is rotatable, wherein the rotor is wound with an armature coil; and a guide member interposed between the protrusions, wherein the guide member guides, to the rotor, the air rotating by the centrifugal force between the rotor and the stator during the rotation of the rotor. The guide member includes a guide wall(68) protruded toward the rotor in such a manner that the guide wall has a thickness increasing as it goes from the inner wall of the stator toward the center formed between the protrusions.
