PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating a ring-back tone in a telephone is provided to divide and synthesize a memorized digital signal into a basic sound and a multiple sound and generate a smooth 2 successive stroke sound of a 3 sound stroke. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(41) reads a digital signal from a memory(42), and divides and synthesizes the read digital signal into a basic sound and a multiple sound. A D/A converter(43) converts the digital signal into an analog signal, and outputs the analog signal to an output port(OUT). A low control signal output unit(44) and a high control signal output unit(45) output a low control signal(L_CTL) and a high control signal(H_CTL) under the control of the control unit(41).
