As the pocket moves from the outlet to the inlet, it passes the mouth of an air removal channel so that the overpressure in the pocket is vented and a coolant liquid can be injected. A rotary sluice feeder for supplying wood chips from a first low pressure zone to a second high pressure zone comprises a rotor (1) with a number of pockets distributed around its mantle surface, and a mantle-type casing with an inlet in its upper part and an outlet in its upper part, which seals the pockets as they move from the inlet to the outlet. The pockets are filled with chips from the low pressure zone when they are aligned with the inlet and are emptied into the high pressure zone when they are aligned with the outlet. As the pocket moves from the outlet to the inlet, it passes the mouth of an air removal channel in between the inlet and outlet and this is used to vent the overpressure in the pocket. A liquid injector (7a) inside the air removal channel is used to supply coolant liquid to the pocket as it passes the mouth of this channel. An Independent claim is also included for a method for filling and emptying this rotary sluice feeder, which is used to supply wood chips from a first low pressure zone at atmospheric pressure and 80-105 deg.C to a second high pressure zone with at least 1 bar overpressure. |
