PURPOSE: A device and a method for compensating the stroke of a reciprocating compressor are provided to carry out the stroke feedback control by correcting a stroke command value with a stroke estimated by a counter electromotive force, thereby reducing the stroke estimation error. CONSTITUTION: A device for compensating the stroke of a reciprocating compressor includes voltage/current detecting parts(10,20) for respectively detecting a voltage and a current applied to a motor, first and second stroke estimators(30,50), a counter electromotive force detecting part(40), a part(60) for generating a correcting value for a stroke command value, a stroke command value determining part(70), a comparator(80), and a stroke controller(90). The first stroke estimator estimates a stroke by the detected motor current/voltage and a motor parameter. The counter electromotive force detecting part detects a counter electromotive force during a predetermined section that no current is flowing to the motor. The second stroke estimator calculates a second stoke estimation value by the detected counter electromotive force. In the correcting value generating part, the first stroke estimation value is multiplied by a predetermined amplification rate, so that the multiplied value is compared with the second stroke estimation value for outputting a correcting value for a stroke command value. By adding or subtracting the correcting value from the stroke command value, a stroke command value is determined in the stroke command value determining part. The comparator compares the stroke command value with the first stroke estimation value to output a difference signal. According to the difference signal, the voltage applied to the motor is varied, thereby controlling the stroke.
