PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for canceling an echo in a communication system are provided to estimate delay time of an echo, estimate the echo using the estimated delay time value, and cancel the estimated echo. CONSTITUTION: A delay time estimating unit(320) receives a far-end voice signal and a near-end voice signal, calculates a delay time value of an echo, and outputs the calculated delay time value. An echo canceling unit(310) estimates the echo in every instant using the delay time value outputted from the delay time estimating unit(320), and cancels the estimated echo. The calculation of the delay time value is performed with respect to every input sample. The calculation of the delay time value is performed per a certain delay time estimation period.
