R1, R3, R4 = H; 1-6C alkyl optionally substituted with halo, OH, NH2, mono-, di- or tri(1-4C alkyl)amino, aryl, 1-3C alkoxy or heterocyclyl; 6-18C aryl optionally substituted with NH2, OH, 1-3C alkoxy or 1-6C alkyl; 2-6C alkenyl; carboxy(1-6C)alkyl; or 1-6C alkylthio; R2 = 2-6C alkyl optionally substituted with halo, OH, NH2, mono-, di- or tri(1-4C alkyl)amino, aryl, 1-3C alkoxy or heterocyclyl; 6-18C aryl optionally substituted with NH2, OH, 1-3C alkoxy or 1-6C alkyl; 2-6C alkenyl; carboxy(1-6C)alkyl; or 1-6C alkylthio; R5 = OH, alkoxy, aryloxy, halo, OSO2R, OCOR or 1-3C trifluoroalkoxy; R6 = OH, OR, aryloxy, halo, OSO2R, OCOR or 1-3C trifluoroalkoxy; and R = 1-6C alkyl optionally substituted with OH, NH2 or 1-4C alkoxy. Alternatively, NR1R2 is a 3- to 18-membered heterocycle optionally substituted with 1-6C alkyl, NH2 or 1-4C hydroxyalkyl, or R1 and R2 can both be 1-6C hydroxyalkyl. Independent claims are also included for: (1) oxidation dyeing of keratinic fibers by applying the above composition in the presence of an oxidizing agent; (2) multi-compartment device comprising the above composition in one compartment and an oxidizing agent in another compartment.
