The machine (1) comprises a series of slicing blades (3), a pusher (7) enabling the bread to be pushed just beyond the blades, a pusher displacement lever (9) and a transmission mechanism between the lever and the pusher. The lever has an inverted U shape and comprises a central handle (25) and two lateral uprights (26). It has a width such that its lateral uprights are located in the machine opposite the two longitudinal ends of the pusher and can act on these ends simultaneously to cause displacement of the pusher.
