<p>PURPOSE: An aqueous adhesive composition and a composite structure containing the composition are provided, to improve the durability of a composite structure prepared by adhering an elastic polymer to other substrate such as a metal. CONSTITUTION: The aqueous adhesive composition comprises at least one halogenated olefin polymer and at least one high-functional epoxy resin, wherein the halogenated olefin polymer is selected from the group consisting of is a non-butadiene type halogenated olefin produced by emulsion polymerization, a non-butadiene type halogenated olefin produced by the method other than emulsion polymerization, a butadiene type halogenated olefin produced by the method other than emulsion polymerization, and their mixtures. The aqueous adhesive composition comprises at least one halogenated olefin polymer and at least one high-functional epoxy resin, and does not contain an effective amount of a methylene-donor compound. Also the aqueous adhesive composition comprises at least one halogenated olefin polymer, at least one high-functional epoxy resin, and at least one water-soluble polymer containing a pendant oxazoline group or diacid-modified resin. The composite structure comprises an elastic polymer substrate; an adhesive produced from the composition; optionally at least one primer; and a second substrate.</p> |
