PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system which adequately recognizes an opening/closing state of windows and doors during a non-precaution operation and reduces communication traffic with no problem. SOLUTION: The monitoring system is provided with a plurality of terminal devices 2-4 having intrusion detecting means 12 or 15 for detecting the presence or absence of intrusion and a central processing unit 1. The terminal devices 2-4 have precaution operation control parts 11 or 14 which carry out the precaution operation according to the instructions from the central processing unit 1. The precaution operation control parts 11 or 14 transmit only necessary information, which is processed and limited, by the method for processing the output from the detecting means 12 or 15 different while the precaution operation is being operated from a method while the non-precaution operation is being operated.
