The electrical switching unit is located in a housing that can be flush mounted or mounted on a surface. Actuation is made by operating a pivot mounted lever (10) that is moved by pulling a cord (12) that projects through a hole in the housing. The lever has a cut out section that fits around a pin (24) acting as a pivot point. The lever is also shaped to fit over a lug (28) and when the lever is moved a force Fd is produced to operate the switch.
