<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method by the biological conversion method of sesamol useful as a raw material for synthesizing a medicine. <P>SOLUTION: A gene group participating in conversion reaction of sesamol is identified from bacterium Mer-H108 strain belonging to the genus Xanthomonas capable of converting 1,3-benzodioxole into sesamol. The bacterium retaining a DNA having the base sequence of the gene group or its modified substance is obtained.
