METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING FAULT IN COMMUNICATION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for detecting a fault in communication apparatus capable of detecting a fault with high accuracy.

SOLUTION: A measurement apparatus 70 is connected to an optional point of a signal transmission system wherein a mobile station 11 and slave stations 61 to 64 are interconnected. The mobile station 11 transmits a supervisory signal with addresses of the slave stations 61 to 64 attached thereto to the signal transmission system. When receiving the supervisory signal with an address of its own attached thereto, the slave stations 61 to 64 transmit a response signal to the transmission system. The measurement apparatus 70 measures a waveform and a frequency component of the supervisory signal or the response signal when detecting occurrence of a data error on the basis of the supervisory signal or a data error detection signal attached to the response signal. Then the measurement apparatus 70 detects a cause (kind) of the fault on the basis of a result of comparison between the measured waveform and frequency component of the supervisory signal or the response signal with the waveform and frequency component of each reference signal. Further, the measurement apparatus 70 can detect occurrence of a fault on the basis of a result of the comparison.
