摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide for efficiently transmitting and receiving light to and from the outside such as a two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide, an optical fiber, etc. SOLUTION: On one flank of a rectangular thin-wire waveguide main body 21 made of the same material as that of the two-dimensional photonic crystal 24, a clad member 23 is provided which is made of a material having a lower refractive index than that of the above material. One end surface 221 of the thin-wire waveguide main body 21 is connected to a photonic waveguide 25 and the other end surface 222 is connected to the outside such as an optical fiber. Nothing is provided above and below surfaces of the two-dimensional photonic crystal 24 to leave space as it is. With this constitution, transmissivity to light between the thin-wire waveguide main body 21 and photonic crystal waveguide 25 can be 0.8 to 0.88 which is larger than that of other constitution in a 1.55μm wavelength band used for optical multiplex communication while single-mode conditions are satisfied.
