PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for efficiently executing the join of a star schemer, and also controlling the balance between a processing performance and a database maintenance cost. SOLUTION: A virtual connection index 101 for defining the combination of a plurality of indexes including at least one (103) of indexes for referring to corresponding records from the column values of a fact chart 105 and one (102) of the indexes for referring to corresponding records from the column values of a dimension chart 104 is stored in a data base. The indexes 102 and 103 indicated by a corresponding virtual connection index 101 are successively accessed at the time of processing an inquiry to request the join of the charts so that the join processing can be executed.
