PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality of a display video by properly controlling a quantity of light radiated to display elements according to the features of a video scene. SOLUTION: A video display device is provided with a histogram creation part 15, a light source control data creation part 16 for creating a light source control data for controlling a light source 6, and a light source driving circuit 5 for controlling the light source based on the light source control data. When a histogram distribution detected by the histogram distribution creation part 15 is in a predetermined distribution state, the light source control data creation part 16 fixes the quantity of light radiated to the display elements 8 at a predetermined level in accordance with this predetermined distribution state, and creates such a light source control data as the light quantity radiated to the display elements 8 continuously increases as the brightness level of the video signal 1 increases when the histogram distribution is off the predetermined distribution state.
