PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet printer provided with a maintenance unit for wiping ink adhering to a print head surely while preventing unnecessary ink from choking ink nozzle holes. SOLUTION: In the ink jet printer having a printing area for printing on a recording medium by ejecting ink in an ink cartridge 4 from a print head 41 and a nonprinting area and provided with a maintenance unit for cleaning the print head 41 of the ink cartridge 4 in the nonprinting area, a cleaning roller 20 impregnated with cleaning liquid is disposed in the maintenance unit to press and wipe the print head 41 of the ink cartridge when the ink cartridge 4 moves. Furthermore, a means 30 having a porous material impregnated with cleaning liquid and supplying the cleaning liquid to the cleaning roller 20 is disposed in contact with the cleaning roller 20.
