PURPOSE: A method for synthesizing a background picture with a photographed picture in a portable terminal having a camera is provided to use a color value of a photographed picture pixel if a bit of a bit mask pixel is 1, and to use a color value of a background picture pixel if the pixel bit of the bit mask is 0, thereby synthesizing a background picture with a photographed picture. CONSTITUTION: A controller senses that a synthetic key is inputted(100). A portable telephone user selects a background picture(101), and selects a photographed picture(102). If the user inputs a cut key through a keypad, the controller senses the cut key(103) and displays a cut frame on the photographed picture(104). If the user selects a cut frame kind, the controller senses the cut frame kind(105) and displays a cut frame shape(106). If the user selects a cut frame, the controller senses the cut frame(107) and displays the selected cut frame on the photographed picture(108). If the user selects a size control function of the cut frame, the controller senses the function(109). The user controls size of the cut frame(110). If the user inputs a confirm key, the controller senses the confirm key(111). If the user inputs a confirm key for completing a setup of the displayed cut frame(115), the controller displays the photographed picture(116). The controller generates the photographed picture as a bit mask, and stores the bit mask(117). The controller synthesizes the photographed picture with the background picture by using the bit mask(200).
