The invention relates to a self-loading handheld firearm comprising a rigid barrel (1) which is provided with a cartridge chamber (3), a lockable closin g head (11) which is locked in relation to the barrel (1) and a closing carrie r (13) which can be displaced in relation to the closing head whereon a closin g spring (9) is supported. An additional, progressively powerful spring arrangement (17, 41) is arranged between the closing carrier (13) and the closing head (11), via which the (heavy) closing carrier (13) is supported when the closing head (11) is locked.
