<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converter which can improve the SN ratio of output signal light. <P>SOLUTION: Excitation lightλ<SB>3</SB>emitted from an excitation light source 150 is transmitted through a reflecting means 121 by way of an optical coupler 130 and guided by an optical fiber 110. In the optical fiber 110 where the excitation lightλ<SB>3</SB>is supplied, light of a new wavelength is generated by a nonlinear optical phenomenon. In the generated light, lightλ<SB>4</SB>at the resonance wavelength of a resonator is optically amplified and oscillated. The input signal lightλ<SB>1</SB>inputted in an input terminal 101 is transmitted through the reflecting means 121 by way of the optical coupler 130 and guided by the optical fiber 110. Output signal lightλ<SB>2</SB>of a new wavelength is generated in the optical fiber 110 by the nonlinear optical phenomenon between the generated lightλ<SB>4</SB>and the input signal lightλ<SB>1</SB>. The output signal lightλ<SB>2</SB>generated in the optical fiber 110 is transmitted through a reflecting means 122, outputted from the resonator, further transmitted through an external optical filter 140 and is outputted from the output terminal 102. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
