A seat adjuster for a motor vehicle comprises a fixed drive motor (1), shaft (1a) and cogs (1b) which can be selectively brought into and out of contact with the cogs (2a-d) of adjusting devices which are held on carriers (3a-d). The carriers can be moved by electromagnets (5a-d) and return springs (7a-d).
