A pumping system (10) for injecting buoyant spheres (12) into an oil or gas well (14) having a feeder (26) containing a plurality of buoyant spheres (12 ); and a sphere pump (24) in proximity to the feeder (26), having first and second rotatable wheels (30, 32), wherein the first wheel (30) has a plurali ty of notches (33) and the second wheel (32) has a corresponding plurality of notches (34), such that during rotation of the wheels (30, 32) the first and second wheel notches (33, 34) temporarily combine to form a plurality of pockets (40), wherein each pocket (40) receives then ejects one of the plurality of buoyant spheres (24) from the feeder (26) during rotation of th e first and second wheels (30, 32).
