<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for efficiently reading character strings by magnetic ink which is described on an original to be read and to provide a control method of an image reader with a magnetic ink character data reading mechanism in the image reader with the magnetic ink character data reading mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: In the original feeding image reader, reading feeding speed regarding optical image reading of the original and reading feeding speed for magnetically reading magnetic ink character data are independently set and separately fed. Furthermore, a position of the original where an image is optically read and magnetic ink character strings are arranged is detected at first and a reading position of the magnetic ink characteristic data is set at the position of the magnetic ink character string. In addition, in a flat bed image reader, it is provided with an optical reading mechanism of the image and a magnetic reading mechanism and magnetic reading is performed by detecting whereabouts of the magnetic ink character string from the optically read image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
