PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin inhibiting problems such as a break, the generation of eye mucus-like material, etc., on forming a film, fiber, etc., and capable of obtaining formed products such as the film, fiber, etc., excellent in surface uniformity, and a film consisting of the same. SOLUTION: This polyester resin is obtained by the polycondensation reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component consisting mainly of terephthalic acid or its ester-forming derivative with a diol component consisting mainly of ethylene glycol through an esterification reaction or ester-interchanging reaction, and has≤15 pieces/g of contained foreign material particles having≥5μm maximum diameter and≤1 piece/g of contained foreign material particles having≥10μm maximum diameter.
