PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymerization initiator and a comb-shaped polymer and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The polymerization initiator has a repeating unit represented by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>is an electron attractive group; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkylene group, a polymethylene group, an aromatic ring-containing group, a hetero ring-containing group, an R<SP>6</SP>-O-R<SP>7</SP>group, an R<SP>8</SP>-S-R<SP>9</SP>group or an R<SP>10</SP>-NR<SP>12</SP>-R<SP>11</SP>group (R<SP>6</SP>to R<SP>11</SP>are an alkylene group, a polymethylene group or an arylene group; R<SP>12</SP>is H, an alkyl or an aryl group); R<SP>3</SP>is an aromatic ring-containing group, a hetero ring-containing group or an R<SP>13</SP>-R<SP>14</SP>group (R<SP>13</SP>is a group containing an aromatic ring or a hetero ring bonded to a carbon atom to which R<SP>1</SP>is bonded; R<SP>14</SP>is an alkylene group, a polymethylene group or a polyoxyalkylene group); R<SP>4</SP>is OH, a halogen or an OSO<SB>2</SB>R<SP>15</SP>group (R<SP>15</SP>is an alkyl group which may contain a halogen atom as a substituent group or an aromatic ring-containing group which may contain a halogen atom as a substituent group) or an OCOC(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>R<SP>16</SP>(R<SP>16</SP>is a halogen)).
