PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique to contribute to the control of push-out resistance in the coke oven operation by finding an effective means capable of estimating the thickness of carbon to be deposited on the oven wall of a coke carbonization chamber with good accuracy, and furthermore finding a means for a coke oven operator to easily grasp the state of the oven wall. SOLUTION: By using a testing oven or an actual oven to previously find the deposited carbon thickness D<SB>0</SB>on the oven wall of the carbonization chamber of the oven, the surface temperature T<SB>0</SB>of the oven wall of the carbonization chamber at that time, and the atmospheric temperature F<SB>0</SB>relating to the oven inside temperature of the carbonization chamber, a relationship equation or a database with respect to the correlation among these D<SB>0</SB>, T<SB>0</SB>, and F<SB>0</SB>is prepared in advance. And, the surface temperature T at the target site P to be measured of the oven wall of the coke oven carbonization chamber to be evaluated and the temperature F of a combustion chamber adjoining the carbonization chamber are measured, and the deposited carbon thickness D at the target site P to be measured of the oven wall of the carbonization chamber is estimated on the basis of the above correlation.
