Alkoxylates (I) produced by reacting C4-8 alkyl glycols or diglycols with C2-5 alkylene oxides until the average degree of alkoxylation is 1-8 are new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) mixtures of (I) and surfactants (II) and/or dihydroxyalkynes or their derivatives; (2) washing, cleaning or wetting agents or cosmetic, pharmaceutical or plant protection formulations containing (I); (3) lacquers, dye formulations, spray formulations or coating, adhesive, leather treatment, flotation, metal treatment, foaming, water retention or textile treatment agents containing (I).
