A cutting-off method of an automatic lathe, comprising steps of applying a front working to a bar material (5) by a front working tool (15) with the bar material (5) chucked by a main spindle (3) rotatably supported by a headstock (1) and with a top end of the bar material (5) supported by a guide bush (9), applying a cutting-off by a cut-off tool (15') after completion of the front working with the top end of the bar material (5) chucked and rotatively driven by a sub spindle (21) rotatably supported by a rear headstock (17), and simultaneously releasing the bar material (5) chucked by the main spindle (3) so that the headstock (1) may rearwardly move to a working start position to be ready for the next working. <IMAGE> |
