PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical modulation film which gives high transmittance and satisfactory contrast and to provide a liquid crystal display element and a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal optical modulation film 10 is constituted of two impregnation films 12a and 12b. In the impregnation films 12a and 12b, porous resin films 14a and 14b wherein a polymer is aligned in one direction are impregnated with a liquid crystal 16, and a dichroic dye 18 is contained in the liquid crystal 16. The liquid crystal 16 is aligned in the same direction as the alignment direction of the porous resin film 14a and 14b. The dichroic dye 18 follows the alignment behavior of the liquid crystal 16 and is aligned in the same direction as the direction of the liquid crystal 16. The liquid crystal optical modulation film 10 is interposed between two transparent substrates 22a and 22b provided with transparent electrodes 20a and 20b, respectively, to form the liquid crystal display element 24.
