METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PERFORMING LOW FLOATING HEIGHT WARNING AS IT IS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting the low floating height of a head as it is and performing low floating height warning as it is. SOLUTION: A direct access storage device (DASD) 100 has a low floating height detection system 126. The low floating height detection system 126 confirms a ratio of reading amplitude of two different disk radiuses with respect to each head 112 of DASD 100. The value of an initial ratio is stored for each head of DASD 100. Reading amplitude is monitored during operation of DASD 100, a ratio of the reading amplitude during operation is confirmed from the two different disk radiuses. A change value from the value of the initial ratio to the ratio of the reading amplitude during operation is calculated and compared with a threshold determined as a low floating head.
