PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium manufacturing method for stably manufacturing a high density, low noise coat-type magnetic recording medium with a high operating rate by stabilizing the surface processing state of the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In this method for manufacturing a magnetic tape 26, magnetic paint containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder is applied onto a non-magnetic belt-like flexible support body to form a magnetic layer, and then the magnetic layer is ground with diamond wheels 82.
