A coin conditioning device for separating non-coin matter from a plurality of coins comprises a belt conveyor having a perforated conveyor belt (9) and a belt agitator (14), which is arranged for agitating the conveyor belt (9) while said plurality of coins and said non-coin matter are being conveyed on said conveyor belt. The coin conditioning device may be provided in a coin processing apparatus. A method for conditioning a plurality of coins is also disclosed.
