An anti-neurodegenerative agent useful in treating and preventing neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Huntinton's disease, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, dementia following cerebrovascular accident and other dementias associated with nerve loss which contains one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of 3-[4-(4-chlorophenyl)piperazin-1-yl]methyl]-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine or its salt, 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-methyl-3-(1-(2-phenylethyl)piperidin-4-yl)isoxazole or its salt, 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-methyl-5-(1-(2-phenylethyl)piperidin-4-yl)isoxazole or its salt, and N-methyl-4-(2-cyanophenyl)piperazinyl-3-methylbenzamine or its salt.
