PURPOSE: Sea-island type conjugate fiber is produced by using a polymer dyed with cationic dyes as an island ingredient. Therefore, the sea-island type conjugate fiber is characterized by having excellent dyeing property and reducing the amount of dyes used. The fiber is useful for grey yarn for the production of knitted goods and textile. CONSTITUTION: The sea-island type conjugate fiber is obtained by using a soluble polymer as a sea ingredient and a copolymerized polyester dyed with cationic dyes as an island ingredient. The copolymerized polyester is obtained by copolymerizing 0.5-3.0mol% of 5-sodium dimethyl isophthalate(DMIS) and 0.5-2.5wt.% of polyethylene glycol with terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate. The polyethylene glycol has a number average molecular weight of 500-1000. The island ingredient has a single yarn fineness of 0.001-0.3denier after eluting the sea ingredient.
