Assistance method for identification of a defective functional unit (17) in a technical plant (3) that has a number of functional units (9). Accordingly a first test of the plant is implemented in which measurements are carried out and a first test result generated. The test results are automatically processed to detect a group of functional units that could be defective. Based on the analysis, a defectiveness probability (15) is assigned to the group.
