PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To issue limited express tickets based on commuter passes. SOLUTION: The automatic ticket vending machine comprises a reading means for reading data recorded on a commuter pass of a conventional line inserted in the body of the automatic ticket vending machine; a commuter pass boarding section extracting means for extracting the commuter pass boarding section of the commuter pass from within the data read; a special train boarding section extracting means for extracting the special train boarding section of a special train line including the whole or part of the commuter pass boarding section extracted; a shortage section extracting means for collating the extracted commuter pass boarding section with the special train boarding section to extract a shortage section outside the commuter pass boarding section not included in the special train boarding section; a calculation means for calculating a fare for the shortage section extracted; and an issuing means for issuing a predetermined ticket which enables the user to board a train in the special train boarding section when the amount of money covering a fare relating to the special train boarding section extracted and a fare for the shortage section is inserted into the body of the automatic ticket vending machine.
