PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing apparatus and method for considerably reducing the storage capacity of a temporary storage means required for interleave processing and decreasing a required circuit scale and a processing amount of data. SOLUTION: The data processing apparatus includes: an error correction encoder 101 for applying error correction coding to data; a temporary storage device 102 for temporarily storing data from the error correction encoder 101 by a unit length, outputting the stored data and thereafter clearing data; a data storage device 103 for storing data outputted from the temporary storage device 102; and a control unit 104. The control unit 104 applies interleave processing, frame division processing, and frame length equalization processing to the data when storing the data to the temporary storage device 102.
