A diagnostic system located on board a vehicle contains sensors for recording vehicle operating parameters such as, for example, speed, wheel rotational speed, yaw rate, transversal acceleration and/or tire operating parameters such as tire inflation pressure and the temperature on the belt edge. All correlations between the parameters are stored in a diagnostic model so that, according to capacity of the system and task definition, it is possible to make assertions concerning the state of wear of the tire and/or incorrect settings on the vehicle.
